AMFC G2 R2 on a wintry May day on Grafham
Five teams, with Bristol RFF absent, found it challenging on a cold wet and windy Grafham Water in this second round of the Championship. All the teams had some members practicing the day before and knew the fish were concentrated in the south-east and north west of the reservoir feeding on buzzers and it wasn’t surprising when the fleet split 25% in Gaynes and 75% in Savages, mostly starting with buzzers on a variety of floaters, sink tips, washing line, straight- lining or the bung.
The SW wind and rain increased and gusted over 35mph and few ventured into the open water before a hailstorm in the afternoon but sunshine dried out a bit later on.
We fished to the usual 4 + 8 format and everyone caught at least 2 fish with the rod average an excellent 6.1 and 13 of 29 rods caught a 3lb+ fish and the average of those weighed-in was 2lb-9oz.
Winning team was Bewl FF- B just pipping Greylags, both with 42 fish but Bewl having slightly heavier 4-fish bags and time bonus advantage from 2 of its rods. RNRMAA were 3rd, Invicta B 4th and a 5- rod team (depleted by illness) Soldier Palmers 5th.
Top Rod was Steve Ottridge fishing buzzers in Gaynes for 27lb-5oz with a tight 17.15hrs finish, followed by Ralph Painter, Ian Watts Tony Smith and Al Owen all with 10 fish or more.
Another notable bag was Tony Wilkinson who weighed 14lb with his first 4 fishBiggest fish was caught by Trevor Bourn at 4lb-7oz. with Soldiers’ Storm Green at 4lb-5oz.
Results were announced at the end of a welcome hot meal in the Lodge at 19.40 Organised by Invicta FFC
